As I remember it from a particularly fascinating history course (they were ALL fascinating, mind you), Rome’s armies were fighting for the Pax Romana all over the frog’s pond and there were no soldiers left to face this new barbarian threat.
As the senate was debating what to do, an old senator stood up and said "I’ll take care of this!"
He then set out to meet the barbarian horde on a donkey, with but a few slaves accompanying him. No centurions, no cohorts, no centuries. Just him, a broken old dude in a toga.
He eventually met the horde and demanded to speak to their leader. He said :
"Rome orders you to stop right here and go home."
The barbarian king was so impressed that Rome would send a weak old man to stop an army that he did just that.
And thus was Rome saved for another day…

Well we sure kicked butt didn’t we? Helluva good time? Boy, lottsa good lookin girls and money out the ass. But whatever happened? We are the Roman Empire. I had a friend in the military that told me the American government has fire power beyond what people can conceive. We play games with third world countries just to keep in shape.
Bye the way Claudius. You look good in that toga. Always good to air your balls. Guess us Romans have it right!

1. You ought to have rejoiced that your son is putting on the manly toga.
2. My daughter too was sensible and learned very well in school. She even spoke Greek as well as her mother.
3. Our enemies have been looking for us. Tell them nothing! We fear them greatly.
4. Our daughters have wished to meet only handsome boys, even if they don’t have money. What are we fathers supposed to do?
5. Who but your mother would be willing to believe you?
6. Only noble Romans came together into the forum.
7. You should have accused no one but an evil man or an evil woman.
8. If a trial occurred, I was always glad that you were defending me.
9. I was not the only one who thought this. Many citizens agreed with me.
10. If she was my friend, why did she defend my enemies?

Tomorrow I’m having Toga Day at my school. ( Jealous? yeah I know) Anyway, When making Toga I came across the leaves that make the headpiece. I found out these were believed to be Laurel or Ivy. I was wondering why the Romans/Greeks wear these headpieces? What was their meaning?
Thanks that’s really interesting

When you see pictures of ancient Rome, you see the togas that are slung over one shoulder. When I look at the pictures from the time of Justinian (for instance), they have changed to a toga clasped at the shoulder. I am wondering if anyone knows the general time when this was changed.

On one side it has; asklepios scm_ ( and a triangle where the blank is ) across the top. The middle of the coin depics a man in a toga ( wraps of some kind ), facing left with his right arm out holding what looks like a bowl. His other arm is grasping a snake wrapped around a staff ( or a stick maybe ). The other side; novvs medicvs across the top. The middle of the coin depics the number " 55 " surrounded by a wreath. Under the wreath is the roman numerals " CCLVII " ( 257 )
